How do freelance audio engineers make money?+
Mostly by selling services per song (mixing, mastering, Dolby Atmos) and by the hour (recording sessions at your own room or a studio). On EngineEars you list those services at your own prices, and artists and labels book and pay online.
Where can I find mixing engineer jobs?+
Most mixing work comes from artists you already know and the artists they refer. A verified profile with real credits, clear prices and a booking link turns that into paid projects, and EngineEars shows your profile to artists searching for engineers by genre, credits and price. 82% of verified engineers on EngineEars have been booked.
How fast do I get paid?+
Clients pay when they book, and the payment is held until they approve your final files. On Provider Platinum, your payout lands within 24 hours of approval.
What’s the platform fee?+
Provider Essentials is free, with a 15% platform fee on bookings. Provider Platinum is $15 a month, billed annually, with a 0% platform fee. Standard Stripe processing fees apply on both plans.
How do I get verified, and how do credits work?+
Apply from your profile. Engineers are reviewed for skill, professionalism and credit history before they can take bookings, and about 1 in 3 applicants don’t make the cut. Your credits sync from Muso.AI, so they show as verified on your profile.
What about endless revisions?+
You set how many revision rounds each service includes, and clients see it before they book. Extra rounds can be sold as a paid add-on, and disputes are mediated by EngineEars.
Can I set my own rates?+
Yes. You set your prices, turnaround, revision rounds, deliverables and add-ons for every service, per song or by the hour.
How does file delivery work?+
Clients upload their files to the project. You deliver lossless WAV, AIFF or stems, with streaming previews and password-protected links. Platinum includes unlimited storage.
Can I take label projects without waiting on net terms?+
Yes. EngineEars invoices the label on its net-30, 60 or 90 terms, and you’re paid on the same schedule as any other project. There are no factoring fees.
Do I own my client list?+
Yes. Every client who books is added to your CRM, and you can export the list any time.
